Superintendent's Letter: Remote Learning Wednesday through Friday

BPS Letterhead

Dear Belmont Public Schools Community,

I write today to inform you that all students and staff, PreK-12 will remain home and pivot back to remote learning on Wednesday, 10/21/2020 through Friday, 10/23/2020.

We received the final air exchange assessment (AEA) from BALA Consultants, Inc. and reviewed it with principals this morning. The final report builds on the initial data received two weeks ago, and expands on the use of mitigation factors, such as windows and air purification units to increase the air exchange. The updated information requires reallocating and reprogramming some air purification units within our buildings. In order to complete this work efficiently and minimize disruption, all students will learn remotely for these three days.

As we move through this process to continue to provide a safe environment for all students and staff, we thank you for patience for this unexpected schedule change. We understand the impact these changes have on families, work schedules, and childcare, and we regret the inconvenience.

We do not anticipate this pivot to remote learning will be extended past this week.  We will send an update to all members of the BPS community about our return to hybrid for PreK-4 and our next steps for the start of Phase III at Chenery and Belmont High School by noon on Friday.

Respectfully,

John P. Phelan, Superintendent
Belmont Public Schools
