SCHOOL COMMITTEE

  • School Committee School Calendar Vote for School Year 2020-2021: The School Committee voted on the 2020-2021 calendar. In accordance with School Committee policy, school will begin on the Wednesday before Labor Day. This means the first day of school for 2020-2021 is September 2, before Labor Day which falls on September 7. Please go to the BPS website to view the 2020-2021 calendar.
  • Tennis Courts at BHS Update: One of the challenges of the high school building project was creating a campus layout that supports BHS athletic programs, minimizes negative impact on a particular program, and serves as athletic spaces for Town, school, and community use. The BMHSBC held public meetings where various options were discussed. The school administration also held meetings with tennis, baseball, softball, and soccer representatives in collaboration with our Athletic Director Jim Davis and Assistant Town Manager Jon Marshall. The question we needed to answer was what is the most universal and efficient use of the space over the course of all seasons. The decision is to use the existing tennis courts at the Winn Brook School and to look into expanding those courts to serve all the tennis programs and needs. We realize this is not ideal, and that in a perfect world there would be enough space to house all programs at the new Belmont Middle and High School but we also feel this decision was the most advantageous choice to answer the needs of the school and community. Please see the presentation to the School Committee on January 7 for more information.
  • Rink RFP Vote: The School Committee voted to move forward with the Request for Proposals (RFP) at the January 7 meeting. Please see the RFP and other exhibits on the BPS website.
  • BHS 2020-2021 Program of Studies: The Belmont High School Program of Studies for 2020-2021 was presented to the School Committee on January 7. New course proposals include AP Computer Science Principles, The Beauty of Math, Game Theory, American Pop Culture, Beginner Instrumental Skills, and Latin Percussion Ensemble. The School Committee will vote on these programs at the January 21 meeting. Please see the presentation for more information.
