Presentation and Discussion on Self-Driving Cars (aka Autonomous Vehicles)

Come learn about the exciting field of autonomous vehicles in a free event here in Belmont!  A panel of industry and government leaders will discuss the latest technology advancements and policy thinking in this fascinating field. Belmont resident, nuTonomy, Inc. co-founder, and President of Aptiv Autonomous Mobility, Karl Iagnemma will provide perspectives and a technology update from the private sector; Daniel Sullivan, Assistant Director of Policy at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Kris Carter, Co-Chair of Mayor Walsh's Office of New Urban Mechanics in Boston, will share insights and policy updates from the state and city levels. Following presentations by each of the speakers, there will be a brief Q&A session.

Karl Iagnemma, Ph. D.

Karl Iagnemma, Ph.D., Aptiv Autonomous Mobility. 

An authority on robotics and autonomous vehicles, Karl is the President of Aptiv Autonomous Mobility, where he leads the effort to build the world’s safest and smartest driverless vehicle software. He co-founded the self-driving car company nuTonomy, Inc. in 2013, which was acquired by Aptiv in late 2017.

Kris Carter

Kris Carter, City of Boston 

Kris is the Co-Chair of Boston Mayor Walsh’s Office of New Urban Mechanics, where he currently oversees the city’s autonomous vehicle research efforts. He has a not-so-secret love for his adopted home Boston, and a passion for solving challenging human-centered urban problems.

Daniel Sullivan

Daniel Sullivan, MassDOT 

Daniel currently serves as the Assistant Director of Policy at MassDOT on a range of emerging technology and policy challenges, including management of the Commonwealth’s autonomous vehicles testing program and partnerships with transportation network companies.
