Belmont High and Middle Schools Celebrate Ground Breaking Ceremony for New School

Belmont high and middle school students, staff, alumni, town officials, building committee, school committee and community members gathered Tuesday to celebrate the start of construction of their new Middle and High school.

Superintendent John Phelan thanked town, school and community members who have invested time and energy into the project. At the end of the ceremony, community members and representatives from various committees involved in this project joined Superintendent John Phelan, Chenery Middle School Principal Michael McAllister, High School Principal Tom Brow and students in front of a mound of sand to symbolically break ground on this community project.

"Over the past several years, the Town of Belmont and the School Department have worked together to solve the increasing enrollment and space challenges in our buildings.

Thank you to the Town of Belmont, the School Committee, the Board of Selectmen, our elected officials, and all the town departments and volunteers that have brought us to this next phase.

The support from the Belmont Community is always humbling and appreciated as we embark on the next steps towards making Belmont Middle and High School a place for 21st century teaching and learning for our students for the next 50 years."

With gratitude,

John Phelan, Belmont Superintendent

Belmont Middle and High School Building Committee
