Each year a number of students from Belmont High School submit artwork for consideration to the Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Students artworks and writings is adjudicated among countless other submissions from across New England on the basis of creativity, technical skill and artistry.
Congratulations to Sanya Malhotra for winning a Gold Key Award in the Poetry category for her "Scarlet Dreams" in the Scholastic Writing Competition. Cynthia Lu and Maiah Newell also won honorable mentions for flash fiction and poetry.
We are proud to announce that thirty-one students from Belmont High School earned a total of fifty-two awards this year – Thirty-two Honorable Mentions, eleven Silver Key Awards, and eight Gold Key Awards. Additionally, 11th grader Victoria Shaw earned an American Vision award for her painting submission. Only five American Vision awards are given for the entire region. Victoria’s painting will be placed into consideration to be displayed during the Scholastic Arts National Exhibition in New York City.

All works receiving Gold Keys will move on to national judging in New York City, and will be considered for national honors: Gold and Silver Medals and Special Achievement Awards. National Medalists will be announced on the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards website on March 13, 2019.
