Veteran’s Day Exercises at Belmont Schools

Veterans entered the school rooms to the sound of applause at the Veteran’s Day Exercises at Chenery Middle School, Burbank and Wellington Elementary Schools on November 10.

The veterans, who represented several branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, were the guest stars at these school assemblies. At each school, the programs opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, where the audience stood and veterans saluted, followed by patriotic songs performed by students.

Among the songs heard that day, the Chenery Winds performed Armed Forces on Parade, coordinated by Band Directors John McLellan and Sharon Phipps, and the Chamber Singers performed The Star- Spangled Banner, coordinated by Chorus Director Sara Carson. Burbank and Wellington fourth grade students performed songs including, My Country ‘Tis of Thee, and This Land is Your Land, coordinated by Wellington Music Teacher Craig McMahon and Burbank Music Teacher Kathryn Hayashi.

The Officer of the Day, Mike Pelrein, U. S. Navy, thanked the schools for the assemblies, and said to enjoy the holiday, but remember what it is for, “Now is a good time to remember the POW’s missing in action, and all the men and women still deployed overseas.”
