Dear Grade 4 Families,

Welcome back to school after what I hope was a fun and relaxing summer. I am writing to provide some details about the exciting musical opportunities and options that will be available your students this year.

Every student in Grade 4 will receive classroom music instruction two times per week. Additionally, students in Grade 4 have the option of taking string instrument lessons, once per week during the school day. This is in addition to the two classroom music blocks they will attend each week. String students will leave their classroom each week for their 30-minute lesson and then return to class at its conclusion. Classroom teachers always do a great job of making sure that string students get caught up quickly on any work that takes place while they are at their lessons.

Many current 4th Graders began studying a string instrument last year, and we certainly hope that they will elect to continue in the string program this year. Students who did not play a string instrument last year are welcome to sign up this year. We have a wonderful new string teacher, Meg Dagon, who will be coming to visit each school over the next two weeks. She will be able to talk with students about either continuing their study from last year, and hopefully starting as new beginners this fall.

Parents - Please follow these steps to enroll in the Grade 4 String Program:

  1. Talk with your student about their instrument preference.
  2. Attend the Instrument Petting Zoo if you aren’t sure what instrument to choose. Thursday, 9/14; 4:00-6:00 PM at CMS
  3. Complete the Grade 4 Strings Sign-Up Form
  4. Pay the Instrumental Music Fee ($250) or apply for a Fee Waiver.
  5. OPTIONAL: Enroll in Saturday Morning Music School (or All-Town Chorus) and pay the SMMS/ATC fee online.
  6. Attend Instrument Rental Day if you do not already have an instrument or need a new size. Monday, 9/18; 4:00-7:00 PM, Belmont High School Cafeteria

Please contact Meg Dagon (Grade 4 Strings Teacher), mdagon@belmont.k12.ma.us if you have questions about lessons or instrument selection. With general questions, contact Arto Asadoorian (Visual & Performing Arts Director), aasadoorian@belmont.k12.ma.us.
