Elementary Modulars for 2018-2019

The Space Task Force Committee was formed in the 2016-2017 school year to review class size, enrollment trends, and the need for space and teaching positions for the elementary level. The Committee is made up of four elementary principals, Director of Visual and Performing Arts Arto Asadoorian, Anne Marie Mahoney from the Capital Budget Committee, Thomas Caputo and Susan Burgess-Cox of the School Committee, and parent Ellen Schreiber.

The main focus of the Space Task Force Committee is to explore space options at the elementary level. This work is done in response to the increase in enrollment and the immediate need to reduce class size. As you know, this work and these decisions are made collaboratively with the work of the Belmont High School Building Committee (BHS-BC).

The School Committee agreed to locate the elementary modulars at the Burbank School at the June 20, 2017 meeting. The modular units would not be in place until the 2018-2019 school year. Town Meeting members voted favorably to fund the modulars at a Special Town Meeting on November 13, 2017.
