Belmont Acres Farm Independent Study Pilot

Belmont High School is piloting a partnership with Belmont Acres Farm, a small family-farm with a passion for creating an innovative and sustainable farm ecosystem.  During the summer, over the course of 8 weeks, students will work on the farm for 3 days a week in 4 hour blocks and  meet weekly with the Program Coordinator about the principles and practices of sustainable agriculture and issues of food justice and nutrition.  Students participating in the Belmont Acres Farm Independent Study Pilot will earn course credit for their summer work on the Farm.  This program is open to all incoming 9th – 12th grade students.

Students must submit a statement of interest by May 31, 2013 to Deborah McDevitt, Director of Social Studies at dmcdevitt@belmont.k12.ma.us.  The one page statement of interest should explain why the student is interested in the Belmont Acres Independent Study and what they hope to learn from the experience.
