BHS Voter Registration Drive

A voter registration drive was held at Belmont High school On October 6 for students who turn 18 on or before November 8. The drive was in conjunction with the town clerk’s office and held outside the cafeteria during lunch periods. On hand to help students register were Belmont Town Clerk Ellen Cushman and BHS Community Service Coordinator Alice Melnikoff.

Voter Registration drives are held regularly before elections to give students an opportunity to register. “We do this every year with the number of drives depending on the timing and number of elections,” says Melnikoff. “We will do another drive before the April elections as well.” Belmont Town Clerk Ellen Cushman said 98 people who are 18 years of age have registered to vote since August 1.

A new online registration option launched last year. Massachusetts became the 21 state to have online registration available for voters.
