Belmont High School Students Wear Pajamas for Donations

Belmont High School (BHS) students had one less thing to do while heading to school one morning—get out of their pajamas.  Staff and teachers joined the students in their PJs on February 13 in exchange for a donation of new pajamas in sizes newborn to 18 or a monetary donation for Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization located in Brighton and Philadelphia.

Community service at BHS and the Belmontian Club organized similar pajama days named “Pajamarama” at Burbank and Wellington schools to help needy children in Massachusetts.  Last year all of the activities raised more than $4,100 and brought in 110 pairs of pajamas.  Belmont Car Wash is again partnering with BHS by holding a car wash at the car wash location on March 28 to help raise money for the cause.

This is the eighth annual state-wide Pajama Drive sponsored by the Boston Bruins for Cradles to Crayons.  Cradles to Crayons contributed free clothing, shoes, books, toys, safety equipment for babies, and school supplies to 87,000 children in Massachusetts and Philadelphia last year.  The organization provides essential items to children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations.

Monetary and pajama (new with tags) donations are being accepted through March 9 at Belmont High School either by dropping them off there or sending them to BHS Community Service Coordinator Alice Melnikoff.  Please make checks payable to Cradles to Crayons.
