About Us

The Belmont Public Schools Business Office provides finance and operational support throughout the district including: payroll processing, accounts payable processing, regular day Bus Transportation, and full day Kindergarten payment processing. The Business Office also develops the Annual Operating Budget in conjunction with the Superintendent’s Office, and the school principals and directors. Additionally, the office provides the Superintendent and the School Committee with financial projections throughout the fiscal year.

School Bus Information

The Belmont Public Schools provides transportation in accordance with Massachusetts State law and Belmont School Committee policy:

Grades K-6

In accordance with State law, transportation is provided at no charge for students residing more than 2.0 miles from their assigned school. Google Maps is used to determine mileage. Students residing under 2.0 miles in grades K-6 may register for busing and pay the appropriate fee. Students in grades 5-6 are assigned bus passes upon registration and payment based on seating availability.

Grades 7-12

Students may purchase a bus pass subject to availability of busing in proximity to their address as well as available seating. There is limited space on our school buses, particularly at the Chenery Middle School.

Additional information for transportation and registration is available here.

Bus Pass Protocol

As student enrollment increases throughout the District, bus registrations continue to increase proportionately. Limited resources in conjunction with strict safety protocols require us to enforce rules and regulations designed to preserve the safe transport of all students throughout the District.  With these factors in mind, the Belmont Public Schools will implement a bus pass policy effective September 4, 2019.

Please note the following information regarding this policy and its implications:

  • A designated individual will be checking bus passes daily. All students must be in possession of their passes every day, and be able to show them when these checks occur.
  • AM Bus Pass Checks - Students who have left their bus pass at home will not be permitted to ride the bus home that afternoon. If the student rides the bus in the AM only, their name will be given to their bus driver and they will not be permitted to ride the bus without a pass the next morning.
  • PM Bus Pass Checks - Any student who rides only the PM bus will need to show their pass prior to boarding their assigned bus. Any student who does not have their pass will not be permitted to ride the bus that afternoon.
  • If students are found riding the bus at any time other than that which is designated on their pass, or any bus other than that which corresponds to their registration, students will not be allowed to ride the bus at that time. Students’ names will be given to the Business Office and the Chenery Main Office for further corrective action and notification of parents.
  • If a student has lost their bus pass, please notify the Business Office for a replacement. Students who have lost a pass and do not request a replacement will not be permitted to ride the bus until a replacement pass has been issued and received by the student.
  • As a reminder, no student may ride the bus at any time if they are not registered with an issued bus pass.

Given the overwhelming number of requests for busing, these rules will be enforced as a measure of fairness as well as for the safety of every student. If you require a replacement pass, change of ridership from AM to PM or similar, please contact the Business Office via email at
