IMPORTANT DATES:

  • June 18: Teacher Appreciation Breakfast
  • June 20: Last Day of School, 11:40 a.m. dismissal
We are proud of our new mural, gifted by the 4th graders, that is now on display in our core hallway. The mural was painted by a local artist and the children are in love with how “Welly” looks in the mural. Please see the picture of the mural attached to this newsletter.
Finally, a HUGE thank you to our PTO and Co-Presidents Lynne Standish and Meryl Junik, for all their efforts this school year in supporting our teachers and students. From field trips, enrichment, the Book Fair, the Fun Run and more, our PTO has been beyond generous in their work to support Wellington. Thank you Lynne and Meryl for all the time you put into your roles as co-presidents, in order to make Wellington the wonderful community that it is. We appreciate all of your work!

Families often ask what students should be working on over the summer, in terms of academics. No matter what you do, the activities should happen on a regular basis and be fun for everyone involved. To that end, here are a few suggestions for summertime:

  • Final Walk—Join our community at 11:10AM SHARP to celebrate FOURTH GRADERS; Turf-side of the school.

Dear Wellington Families,

It has been another amazing year at the Wellington! We appreciate all of your support and hope you have a wonderful summer. Please keep in mind that the last day of school is Wednesday; students dismiss at 11:40AM, which means lunch will not be served on the last day of school.

We had a successful 4th Grade Send Off event last Thursday evening. A big thank you to our 4GSO chairs and all the parent volunteers for organizing such a fun and memorable event for our 4th graders and their families.

Please be aware of the warm temperatures for this last week of school and dress your children accordingly, as the building can be warm. Please send in a water bottle so students can stay hydrated throughout the day.

Thank you for your support and partnership this past school year. It has truly been my privilege to have taken the helm from former principal Amy Spangler in January, and lead Wellington School through the end of this school year. I am proud of the work that our staff and students have accomplished and I am humbled by the unending support I have felt from this generous and kind community. I will continue my work at Wellington again next year, in my previous role as assistant principal. I look forward to continuing to work and learn with all of you and your children.

A simple and fun routine should be set early in the summer that involves some sort of reading and writing each day. Students need to practice the skills that they have already gained at school. Providing students with protected time and the fun resources needed to reinforce or expand their skills, each day, is a big part of this being a successful endeavor. Students of all ages and skills can be very motivated to write emails to family members or grocery lists as a favor. Students can also find it inspiring to have a journal or diary where they can write or draw a reflection each day or develop stories or jokes. It probably goes without saying but, all early readers should either read or be read to, or both, if possible throughout the entire summer. Here is a link to a summer reading list for all families from Belmont Public Schools: www.belmont.k12.ma.us/bps/Home/Belmont-Public-Schools-News/Article/72/Summer-Reading-Lists-2018

And, how are the children? Well, very well indeed.
