This past Saturday (11/17), the Massachusetts Music Educators Association held auditions for its high school honors groups across the state.  Along with over a thousand students from other schools, 110 students from Belmont High School travelled to North Andover to audition for the Northeast District Band, Chorus and Orchestra.

Of these students who auditioned, a staggering fifty-nine were accepted into the Northeast District ensembles.  In addition, twenty five students received All-State recommendations, qualifying them to audition for the 2013 All-State ensembles in December.

The accomplishment of each individual student – including those who prepared and auditioned, but were not accepted this year – is a result of their hard work and the support of their parents and teachers.  The fact that so many students in our district are achieving at such a high level in music is a tribute to the quality of K-12 music education provided in Belmont, and the level of support for arts education in our community.
