The Department of Food Service is responsible for providing nutritious meals for students that partake in the lunch offerings.  We also provide breakfast at the high school level.

We strive to be ahead of federal and state guidelines concerning the wellness of our students in action as well as policy.  We are challenged to serve nutritious and appealing meals on a daily basis.  Soda and candy has not been part of the school lunch program for several years.  We serve skim and reduced fat milk, control portion sizes, restrict sodium and  high caloric foods.  Lunch Menu is available online.

myschoolbucks.comWe are happy to introduce NUTRIKIDS/MySchoolBucks, our new point of sale lunch system in the Belmont Public Schools!

Payments are easy to make.  Simply go to www.belmont.k12.ma.us and select Online Meal Payments,” and create your account.  You will need your student’s ID number  <<ID>>  which was mailed home in a letter recently.  For complete information about making online payments, go to:  http://learnmyschoolbucks.com/Parent/ . All children must punch in their PIN as they approach the register to pay for lunch.

Students may continue to use their old lunch tickets until depleted and must then put money into their on-line account or bring cash or a check to their child’s school office or to cafeteria personnel.    If you opt to send a check with your child to replenish the account, please be sure to write the child’s name and PIN number on the check so that we know where to apply the funds.   The option to pay for lunch each day with cash is still in place.

PIN pads are located at every register and provide both ease of use and speed for transactions.  Students may use any register.  If a PIN is forgotten, the cashier can look it up and complete the transaction.

Please feel free to call us at 617-993-5871 if you have any questions.

We are very excited about this new system and know that it will cut down on the wait time in line for your children.

FREE OR REDUCED PRICE SCHOOL MEALS FAQ

All the schools have kitchens allowing us to prepare meals on site. The school lunch program offers milk, vegetables (fresh or frozen) and fresh fruit on a daily basis.  We do not offer any caffeinated or carbonated beverages.  Entrée items are baked.  We do offer various baked potato items such as tater tots and oven fries.  We have no means of deep frying at any of the school locations.

On a daily basis the elementary menus offer the meal of the day, and alternatives that include chicken nuggets, yogurt cup tray, PB&J plus the sandwich rotation. The majority of students opt for the meal of the day.

The vending machines at the Chenery Middle School and at Belmont High School offer healthy alternatives such as granola bars, reduced fat yogurt cups, low fat cheese sticks, baked chips and crackers.  The drink machines have 100 % juices, milk, skim and reduced, sport drinks and water.

We work in collaboration with parents and the community in order to provide an environment that promotes and protects lifelong, healthy habits that support good nutrition and physical activity.  Any concerns regarding food allergies please contact the school nurse.
