In Brief

Walk and Bike to School Day

Thank you to everyone who participated in National Walk and Bike to School Day on May 9.  We had a beautiful day and a high turnout – it was great to see so many kids walking and biking with their friends!  Walking is good exercise and eliminating car trips reduces pollution in our environment and traffic congestion in our neighborhood.  Remember that the bus also counts, since every rider on the bus means one less car on the road.

Chenery Courtyard Celebration of the Arts

You are invited to the 14th Annual Chenery Courtyard Celebration of the Arts, on Monday, May 21st, 2018, from 6:00 – 7:30 PM (rain or shine, performances start at 6:20). Meet the students and artists who have been inspired by Chenery’s Courtyard Gardens. Listen to musical performances by the Bellaires and Chenery students. Enjoy nature as viewed through music & art. Refreshments will be served.  Sponsored by the Chenery Middle School and Massachusetts Audubon’s Habitat Intergenerational Program (HIP).  Questions? Contact Ben Ligon (bligon@belmontschools.net).

Green Corner Update

Thanks to Mr. Ligon, Mr. Williams and the 5th and 6th grade Trash Bashers, Chenery successfully banned Styrofoam in 2018. As a result of the Trash Bashers' hard work and dedication, the administration has brought in compostable trays and is hopeful that a comprehensive composting program will be in full swing for the 2018-2019 school year.

7th Grade Parent Volunteers Needed

Hello 7th grade parents,

Traditionally, 7th Grade Parents help out with the end of year 8th grade activities so that 8th grade students and families can enjoy the events.

  1. The 8th grade Class Night Party happens a a few days before the end of school.
  2. The 8th Grade Reception happens following the Moving On Ceremony on the last day of school.

We are looking for 7th grade parent volunteers to help at both events.

Monday, June 18th from 5:45 to 9:00 for the 8th Grade Class Night Party.

7th Grade Parents chaperone during the event and we need over 40 volunteers. Chaperoning is fun (really) and gives you an opportunity to see what your 7th grader will experience next year. 8th grade parents handle set up & clean-up. 7th grade parents oversee games, organize food, and provide general crowd control. To sign up to help, please use the link below.

Sign Up to Chaperone

Wednesday, June 20th from 9am - 11am for the 8th Grade Reception.

The 8th grade parents plan and shop for the reception but we need 7th grade parents to run the event from setup to clean-up after the reception. To help, please use the link below.

Help At the 8th Grade Reception

Please sign up to help at either event. If you cannot make the entire time, let us know what you can do.

If you have any questions, please contact us at chenerypto@gmail.com

Thank you for your help!
