In Brief

Help Wanted Preparing for the 8th Grade Party!

Attention 8th Grade Parents! Join the team!

Our 8th Grade Party Co-Chairs need your help.  Planning is underway, many arrangements are already made.  Help is needed pulling together the details of the evening.

Please volunteer to assist--starting now--with planning and preparation.

Take on a small task

Bring along a friend to volunteer with you

Parents are needed to assist with:

  • Volunteer Coordination (recruit and manage set up and clean up help)
  • Food and Drinks (menu is set, arrangements to be made)
  • Games (gather and organize materials, games are already planned)
  • Tickets/Invitation (manage ticket sales)

Sign up with a friend! The Party is Monday evening June 18. Please join the team and help create a memorable evening for our 8th Graders! Interested?  Please email Laurie Bufano, PTO Co-President, Thanks!

Attention 7th Grade parents!

At the very end of 8th grade, students are treated to a huge party, planned by parents, supported by the PTO and administration. The party is completely planned and set up by 8th grade parents who then leave and the party is run by 7th grade parents.

This is where we need YOU! Please join the team NOW!  A few 7th grade parents are needed to shadow the 8th grade team planning the event, recruit volunteers, run the event on the evening of June 18, and then take the lead next year when your kids are in 8th grade.

Join us! The Party is the evening of Monday June 18. Volunteering is fun with a friend!  Sign up together. Interested?  Please email Laurie Bufano, PTO Co-President, Thanks!

Bingo and Slush: thank yous

Thank you to our Fifth Grade Activities Coordinators Stephanie Hovsepian and Meghan Hopkins and the team of parent volunteers for a wild and crazy Bingo and Slush party!  What a blast!  Thank you to Mr. Hartunian for joining in the fun!  We appreciate the generous support of many families who donated gift cards as prizes.  Thank you!

Chenery Walk and Bike to School Day is May 9

Join your classmates and celebrate the benefits of walking and biking to school!  Walking is one of the best forms of exercise. Walking or biking to school helps kids incorporate physical activity into their daily routine, encouraging habits that can last a lifetime.  In addition to health benefits, walking to school promotes a cleaner environment by reducing pollution and safer streets by improving traffic and congestion near school buildings and in our neighborhoods. Our goal is to increase the percentage of walkers and bikers.  We encourage everyone who can to walk or bike to school on May 9.

PTO Meeting – May 3rd at 7 pm in the Chenery Community Room

Please join us as we welcome special Guests Lisa Gibalerio and Wendy Conroy will present at the meeting to address The Challenging Task of Parenting Teens.

Topics covered will include:

  • how to talk with your teens about substances (alcohol, vaping, marijuana)
  • how to communicate your expectations about these substances
  • how to talk about relationships, curfew, and the stress they are likely experiencing
  • how to increase their protective factors (those things that help keep them safe)

Lisa & Wendy, trained Health Educators, are Belmont residents and the parents of teens. Lisa is currently working with Wayside Youth & Family Support Network to oversee the implementation of two grants that impact Belmont – one addressing youth substance use and the other addressing issues related to youth mental health. Wendy teaches sexuality education to youth and helps parents navigate challenging conversations with their children.

We also look forward to a presentation from the Chenery Green Team on exciting developments with recycling and composting in the Chenery cafeteria.
