Enrichment Update

Thanks to your generosity in the Annual Appeal, we are able to bring amazing enrichment programming to Chenery. Here are updates on three recent programs:

In late November, seventh graders enjoyed a presentation on Heat & Temperature brought by the Museum of Science. The program tied in nicely with the current seventh grade science curriculum and allowed students to help with experiments involving conduction, convection and radiation that typically cannot be done in the classroom. Students helped conduct investigations using liquid nitrogen, fire and even a classmate’s cell phone!

On January 3, The Museum of Science Traveling Education program provided a special presentation for all eighth grade students—The Motion Forces and Energy Program—explored the role of force and energy and how they affect motion. Students watched a pencil accelerate to almost 200mph in a fraction of a second, heard the effects of gravity with the help of crashing metal plates, and acted as medieval engineers as they considered ways to improve the design of a medieval catapult. It was a captivating presentation.

On January 12, seventh grade students were treated to a performance of Arabic dance, music and culture by Karim Nagi. Mr. Nagi shared several instruments, a traditional costume and language with students in a high energy, captivating performance. Students even learned how to clap rhythms of ancient traditions.

Thank you to our Enrichment Team for continuing to seek and organize exciting engaging programs!
