PTO Annual Appeal Update

Dear Chenery Families,

We are happy to report that we have achieved 80% of our Annual Appeal goal of $30,000.

To all who have made a donation, thank you! It is only with your generous financial support that we are able to have a profound impact on the experience of our students at Chenery.

Your contributions fund fascinating in-school enrichment programming and visiting author programsat every grade level. Additionally, this money allows us to offer scholarships for major grade-level trips, and to support other community service projects, social and teacher appreciation endeavors.

To date, only 20% of Chenery’s 1,265 households have made a donation to the PTO’s Annual Appeal. It is the engaged, enthusiastic and supportive parents who help to build a strong community and enriching learning environment for our children.

Please join in supporting amazing experiences.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation online...

Author JULIE BERRY Visits Chenery

Julie Berry, author of The Scandalous Sisters of Prickwillow Place and over 15 other titles, visited our fifth grade students for a 3-day series of point-of-view writing workshops. Ms. Berry’s books have been recognized as Horn Book Fanfare titles and New York Times Notable Titles.

In addition to working with students in their classrooms, Ms. Berry also conducted an interactive all-grade assembly about how to write a fiction story. Students learned resourceful ways of finding ideas and developing characters and plots.

Thank you to our Librarian, Karen Duff. The PTO supports Ms. Berry’s visit through our Enrichment Author Programs.

Trash Bashers Update and Help Wanted!

Mr. Ligon is excited to announce the tremendous success of his team of Trash Bashers now volunteering in all 6th grade lunches! These dedicated students monitor and support their peers in learning an expanded recycling stream now in use in the Chenery cafeteria.

There are still a few Trash Bashers who need support as they train. Due to half days, the Wednesday teams have not yet had the opportunity to get involved. Parent volunteers wanted for Wednesday, November 15, and Wednesday, November 29, 10:00—10:45 to assist.

Thank you for helping to launch the important change in our cafeteria!
