Dear CMS Parents,

I am writing to update you about some exciting news for the CMS Chorus program. Over the past couple of years we have had a change in directors followed by two long-term substitute teachers leading the CMS choruses. The teachers and students involved in the choruses have all done wonderful work in this time, but we are all looking forward to regaining some long-term stability in this outstanding program. To that end, I am happy to inform you that we have hired Sara Carson as our new Chorus Director at CMS.

Ms. Carson has been the Grade 6-8 Chorus Director in Waltham since 2010, where her ensembles have been selected to perform at the American Choral Directors Association conference (2016) and at the Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Conference in 2015 (the same conference where the Chenery Winds performed in 2016). She earned her bachelors and masters degrees in music education from Gordon College, where he has also directed their Children’s Choir since 2007 and has been a member of their music education teaching faculty since 2013. Ms. Carson is considered a leader in the field of music education in our state, and is one of the most accomplished and experienced middle school chorus directors in New England. We are so fortunate to be welcoming her to our music faculty and to CMS in the fall.

One scheduling change that chorus parents should be aware of for 2017-18: For a variety of reasons, CHAMBER SINGERS rehearsals will take place on TUESDAYS after school. This is a change from previous years, so I want to make sure that you have a chance to move other scheduled activities around if you anticipate your student being a part of Chamber Singers this year.

As always, thank you for your support of the CMS Choruses and our music program. I hope that you have a wonderful summer, and I will look forward to seeing you at our concerts next fall.
