Chenery Boys Basketball Information

Nov 22

Dear Students and Parents,

Thank you for your interest in the Chenery Boys Basketball Team.  This is my second season as head coach and I am looking forward to the opportunity to get to know the new players and build on our successes from last year.  My goals for the team, as for myself, are largely focused on growth; both as athletes, students and young men.   I genuinely believe that the lessons we teach children during these transformative years will have the greatest influence on who they become and what values they develop, which is why I take this role so personally.    We will spend a lot of time on fundamentals and learning how to function as a team, while making sure that everyone has an educational and enjoyable experience.

For many of you, this may be the first time you’ve been part of a large tryout session with eventual roster cuts.   Last year, we had over 50 boys participating in our initial session and only 12 were eventually selected.  Please understand that the numbers alone make it almost impossible for me to give each player the amount of time and attention preferable under ideal circumstances.  What I can promise is that every person who tries out will be given the same opportunity to make the team and that I don’t bring any presumptions into the process.

Tryouts are scheduled for the week of 12/5/16, with details to follow.  All boys will have three days of evaluations before the first roster cut is announced.  Due to numbers alone, I will post a list of the names of players who made the first cut at the office on Thursday morning and those players alone should report to the final tryout that afternoon.  Following Thursday’s session, I will meet individually with each player and announce the final roster.  Friday will be our first practice as a team.   At this time, I intend to keep between 10-12 players on the roster.

Thank you again and I look forward to seeing you on the court!

Regards,

Sean DePamphilis

TRYOUT INFORMATION:

If you intend to participate in tryouts, parents must complete the following steps:

1.        Send an email to me at sdepamphilis@gmail.com with your son’s name, grade level and parent contact information by Friday, November 25.  This is a firm cutoff date to allow sufficient time to divide the participants into groups and prepare the sessions. You will receive a confirmation email detailing the expectations for players and parents, as well as the team schedule and other pertinent information.  Please note that ALL PLAYERS and PARENTS who intend to try out must send this email and confirm they have read the expectations or they may not participate in tryouts.  If you send an email and have not received a response, please try sending it again and confirm the address is correct.

2.        Ensure the school has an up to date physical.   Physicals are valid for 13 months.  The physical must remain current for the entire season.  This should be on file with the school nurse.

3.       Payment or voucher for the Chenery Student Activity Fee.  (If the student does not make the team and doesn’t participate in any other Chenery activities, the fee will be refunded).

4.       Permission Form

5.       MIAA Chemical Form

6.       Pre-Participation Head Injury/Concussion Form

7.       Concussion Education Form

The forms are now available electronically and will be sent to parents directly from the school following the informational meeting.

If you are interested in trying out, but unable to make the informational meeting, you can email me at sdepamphilis@gmail.com, which can be used for any questions or comments.  I appreciate your support and look forward to a great season.
