All students are to read over the summer in preparation for the start of the new school year.  Teachers selected these books to interest students and to enrich their literary background.  Belmont Public Library and area bookstores will receive copies of these lists.

Students K-5

FizzBoomReadThe summer reading lists are a joint project of the Belmont Schools and the Belmont Public Library. They are designed to encourage students in Belmont to make reading a habit, raising both their interest and abilities in reading. The following is a list of suggested books.

Be sure to visit the Belmont Public Library’s children’s room and sign up for the Summer Reading Program. The theme this year is Fizz Boom Read.

Please, enjoy these books with your child.

Middle School

Reviewed by librarians at Chenery Middle School and Belmont Public Library, these titles and authors are recommendations, not requirements. Incoming six graders are expected to read 3 books over the summer and to keep a list of the titles.  The choice of reading material is up to you and your parents.

Entering seventh and eighth graders are to read one required title and one suggested.  Entering seventh graders have four choices for required reading; all entering eighth graders will read The Giver, by Lois Lowry.  Each required text will be used in the fall to begin the school year.  Students may want to purchase their own copies to mark up.

High School
