Chenery Middle School Counselors

The counselors assist students in many ways. They meet with them to see how they are doing both academically and socially within the school atmosphere. School counselors are good people to talk to if a student have a problem or a question.

Teams

The 5th and 6th grades are grouped together to form the Lower School, and the 7th and 8th grades form the Upper School.

Lower School

5th grade students are placed on two teacher teams of approximately 50students. Teachers provide instruction in either Math/Science or English/Social Studies.

6th grade students are placed in a four-teacher team. There are approximately 100 students on each team. Each teacher provides instruction in one specific content area: Math, Science, English, or Social Studies. In addition to these content areas, students will choose a foreign language to study for two quarters (French, Spanish, Latin, or Mandarin Chinese) and will take a reading course for two quarters.

Upper School

7th grade students are placed on a four-teacher team. There are approximately 100 students on each team. Each teacher provides instruction in one specific content area: Math, Science, English, or Social Studies. In addition to these content areas, students will continue to study their chosen foreign language for the entire school year.

8th grade students are placed on a three-teacher team with approximately 100 students on each team. Each teacher provides instruction in one content area: science, English, social studies. In addition to these content areas, students will continue to study their chosen foreign language. Mathematics class will be conducted “offteam” to ensure the most appropriate program for each student and aid in the transition to high school.

This plan provides for a smooth transition from elementary school and prepares students for high school.
