Welcome Back to School from Principal St George

Thu, 28 Aug 2014 05:00:00 GMT

Dear Families:

I hope the end of summer finds you rested and looking forward to the new school year.  Each school year is full of new and exciting opportunities for students and teachers.  I look forward to welcoming new and returning students to CMS.

We welcome students back to school on Wednesday, September 3rd:

  • School hours:  7:45 a.m. until 2:25 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays

  • School hours:  Wednesdays 7:45 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. except for our early release half days.

  • On half days we dismiss at 11:00 a.m. and lunch is not served.

This fall we are very excited to focus time and energy working with students to implement our new motto:  Respectful, Responsible, Ready to Learn:  Everybody, Every Day!  As you may recall, faculty and staff engaged in a collaborative, year-long professional process of reviewing and ultimately revising our mission and motto.  Exploring how our motto will live throughout the building will be a common theme during the year. On our first day and throughout the year we will be mindful to connect our words and work to the CMS motto:  Respectful, Responsible, Ready to Learn:  Everybody, Every Day!

As we implement this new motto I look forward to sharing our progress with you.  Using common language with our students, while reinforcing shared expectations and values, promises to be energizing and engaging.

    Please note:

Space surrounding CMS is congested particularly around the start and end of the school day.  Ensuring the safety of our students requires structured and consistent routines during drop off and pick up.  Please review the procedures below.  It is imperative that we all adhere to these expectations and commit to student safety as our priority.

    At drop off you may:

  • park on surrounding side streets and walk your student to the Chenery entrance

  • enter Washington Street from Common Street, pulling alongside the building, to drop off your child

    At pick up you may:

  • enter Washington Street from Common Street, live park alongside the building, and wait for your student

  • park on surrounding side streets and walk to the entrance to meet your student

At no time should cars stop in the crosswalk.

Do not enter the Chenery parking lot at any time before, after, or during school hours. The parking lot is for buses, faculty, and staff only.

    Parent and visitor parking:

  • Side streets only during school hours

Please allow yourself extra time and drive slowly when dropping off or picking up at CMS or when you are visiting the school.  Again, the parking lot is faculty and staff parking only.  Thank you for your attention to these important procedures and supporting our efforts to keep all students safe.

I look forward to seeing you soon.  Enjoy a restful, long weekend.

Principal's Message

Dear Students:

At Chenery Middle School we share a set of beliefs and values that inform and guide our words and actions. Throughout the year we will discuss these and explore how we can continue to foster them in our school. These core values are represented by our school's motto: RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, READY TO LEARN: EVERYBODY, EVERY DAY.  By making these values central to our time together, we will be successful in ensuring the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students. I look forward to working and learning with each of you.

Very sincerely,
Kristen St. George
