Mapping the 20th Century Symphony Orchestra

Dear First Grade Music Geographers,

Hello! You have been learning a lot about European music from the Renaissance (1450-1600), Baroque (1600-1750), Classical (1750-1825), Romantic (1825-1900) and 20th Century (1900-2000)! I know that you love and know a lot about geography, too!

Here's a fun learning activity for you to do at home with your family and friends. Get a piece of paper and make a map of where the musicians sit when they perform in the orchestra. Why do you think that musicians are seated in particular areas? For extra fun, explore the differences between the arrangement of musicians from period to period. What did you discover? Bring it back to school to share with our class! Love, Ms.LaRoche

Print this page and bring it back to school!
