These photos show different

kinds of ham radio equipment.

This is a small short wave radio transceiver. This kind of equipment can be easily carried on a vacation trip or installed in a car.

These are hand held portable radios for VHF (very high frequency) use. These frequencies are very close to the FM radio band. The range of these frequencies is quite short and these radios are often used for local communication (up to 20 miles).

This is a small portable computer connected to a VHF portable radio. The radio is used to transmit and receive computer data. This allows the radio ham to transmit accurate information about their location (GPS data) or updates on local weather in emergencies.

Another short wave transceiver, designed to be controlled with a computer interface.
