*"Getting Acquainted" - Meeting New First Grade Friends at Winn Brook School
Facilitators:  Grade One Teachers

Our first grade students will meet throughout the school year to develop skills that we are working on in the Open Circle Curriculum.   In order for us to become friends and work well together, it is important for us to learn about one another.   We began our first meeting with learning each other's names and how to pronounce them correctly.   We played a memory game, too!  We stood in 4 giant circles in the gym and listened and watched carefully while every child in each group said her/his  name and showed a symbol of something special to them.  We really had to pay attention because we had to remember the names and symbols of every child in our group!  It was fun!  Now we have some new friends to play with at recess, too!

Ask your child to say the names and special symbols of as many children she/he can remember.  You might want to try this getting acquainted game with your family and friends, too!  Have fun!
