School bus service for the 2010-2011 school year

For the 2010-2011 school year, our bus contractor is Eastern Bus Company.

There is a limited availability of space on our school buses, particularly at the Chenery Middle School. All students who wish to have bus service next year should complete the attached application and return by no later than June 30 to: Belmont Public Schools, Attn: Busing, 644 Pleasant Street, Belmont, MA 02478. Paid bus passes are processed in the order in which they are received. Applications received after June 30 will be placed on a waiting list.

Application for school bus service and instructions are available here

Dear Parents,

The safety of students who walk to school and who are dropped off by parents at Chenery has been a concern for some time, and finding a solution to the problem was a major focus two years ago of the parents and teachers on the Chenery Advisory Council and the Belmont Police Department. With the assistance of Sgt. Kenneth Hamilton and the approval of the Board of Selectmen, a traffic plan was implemented last September which has improved traffic flow and safety for students.

The details of the plan are as follows:

Students being driven to school should be dropped off on Branchaud Road or on the school side of Washington or Oakley. Only staff and buses may enter the parking lot; parents may not enter the parking lot to drop off or pick up students. Washington Street is one-way eastbound from Common Street to Oakley Road from the hours of 7 A.M. to 9 A.M. and from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Likewise, Oakley Road is one-way southbound from the intersection with Washington Street to Chester Road. There will be No Parking on either side of Washington Street or Oakley Road all day. The surrounding streets - Garden Street, West Street, Howard Road, Selwyn Road, and Hurd Road - will be marked as one-way away from Chenery for the same hours, thus funneling vehicles away from the school. Unfortunately, the school parking lot is only large enough to accommodate staff vehicles; parking for parents and visitors to the school should be on the side streets only.

Our goal is to prevent accidents involving Chenery students by easing the traffic congestion immediately around the school building.
