During January and February Butler is excited to take part in the Green Cup Energy Challenge! With a contest organized by the Green Schools Alliance nationally, the Green Cup Energy Challenge empowers children to make a positive change in behavior that impacts the environment.
The goal for Butler and other participating Belmont Public Schools is to reduce energy usage in school buildings by 5% over the one month period of the Challenge. For details see http://www.greenschoolsalliance.org/energy-challenge.
Students and staff will be directly involved in raising awareness and making small efforts to conserve big energy by turning out lights and powering down computers when not in use. Each week of the Challenge our school's electricity meter reading will be sent to the Challenge coordinators as we compete with other schools, in Belmont and nationally, to meet our energy reduction goal!
The BPS District-wide participation in the Green Cup Energy Challenge celebrates and supports Belmont's recent designation as a Green Community, which puts Belmont on a path to reduce municipal energy consumption by 20% in the next 5 years.
