Thank Yous and Safe Routes reminder

Thank you to the Burbank Walks committee, Hyon-Jee Voigt, Tiao Xie, Katie S'bay and Burbank's own PE teacher, Katie Crow, for International Walk/Bike to School Day and for kicking off the Walk-It Ticket program. Burbank students are doing a great job walking and biking to school this Fall! The fresh air and exercise is great for learning.

A quick reminder about new parking signs: the town has installed and adjusted signs on Sharpe Road and Gale Road so that areas with parking restrictions are clearly marked.  Please carefully observe all posted signs, noting that on Gale Road there is no parking on the left side of the street on school mornings 8-9 amPlease take care not to block driveways or crosswalks.

Parent-Teacher Book Drop

Is your house overflowing with unread or outgrown children's fiction and non-fiction books? Burbank and Belmont teachers are in constant need of books to replenish their classroom libraries. Help us match supply and demand and get these books some TLC in a new home!  Please bag and bring gently used children’s books to your parent-teacher conference. Bring books of any reading level, not just for your child’s particular grade. Your child’s teacher will collect them, and they will be sorted and redistributed by the Belmont Public School ELA Curriculum Director (and Burbank parent) Jaynene DeLitt-Young. What a great way to share your books!

The November 6th election has national, state, and local importance. Make your voice heard! The deadline to register to vote in the November election is October 17th, so do it today!

Box Tops Collection: October 24th & 25th

It's time to send in your BoxTops! There will be two collection days - Wednesday, October 24 and Thursday, October 25 - in front of the school during morning drop off. You can also drop BoxTops in the collection box in the main office, or send them in via your child's take-home folder. Questions? Contact Mike Raiter at

A reminder to collect change and make change in kids' lives by participating in the UNICEF Trick-or-Treat program. On Thursday November 1st, students can participate in “Fill A Bucket” Day by turning in their UNICEF collection boxes (or making a donation) on the blacktop. Students can fill the UNICEF bucket to provide children around the world with medicine, nutrition, clean water, emergency relief, and education. In the spirit of “Fill A Bucket” Day, students are also encouraged do or say something kind to fill a friend’s bucket. The Burbank class with the highest percentage of class participants to return UNICEF collection boxes will be honored by the school and have their picture taken with Dr. Clifford! Please contact the PTA Social Action Committee (Breda Zimkus, or Jim Zimkus, with questions.

What a great day we had at the Belmont Gallery of Art ( on Wednesday October 11!  The weather was amazing and were able to get some fresh air on our walk over.  Thanks to all the parent chaperones that volunteered throughout the day. We appreciate your time and help!

While at the gallery, we had the opportunity to view the Rhythm and Hues exhibit.  The show was a great combination of art inspired by music.  We were also lucky enough to have Richard Hill, one of the artists in the show, come visit and talk with us about his process and artwork.  The students had very thoughtful and creative questions for the artist and then they had the opportunity to explore the gallery with a gallery guide worksheet.  They played “I Spy” on some work, reflected on their favorite pieces, talked about different mediums, explored titles (and prices of art!), and were amazing artists during their time the gallery.  Big thanks Rebecca Richards (gallery director), Richard Hill, the parent chaperones, and the Belmont Gallery of Art for their partnership! Here are some details and photos from our time in the gallery:

If you are looking for another local art event, the Belmont Library is current holding an exhibit titled The Art of Frankenstein on display until November 17th.  David Schuster, Burbank parent, has a piece of art in the show!

Go check out the amazing art we have right here in the Belmont community!

The PTA’s Annual Appeal had strong momentum through September. Thanks to generous contributions from 130 families and several teachers, we have met 75% of our goal of $30,000! Thank you to those who have already contributed! We are aiming for 100% participation to make our annual budget. Let’s keep the momentum going. Make a donation online at, or by sending a check in your child’s school folder. We ask you to contribute whatever you’re comfortable giving, and if you need a number, we suggest $125 PER CURRENT BURBANK CHILD. Your contribution directly helps enrich your child’s school experience. Every bit helps, so please join us and give what you can.

Examples of past partnerships between the Burbank PTA and the Burbank school include teacher grants, SMART boards, classroom supplies, grade-level enrichment activities, “Mathbrary” for Grade 2, Colonial Day for Grade 3, Kindergarten field trips, online enrichment subscriptions for Grades K-4, community-building events, school library and classroom library support, and teacher professional development.
