But first, a few important announcements. . .

RESCHEDULED: Burbank Modulars and Belmont High-School Project Update: Wondering what to expect over the coming summer and Fall with the Burbank Modulars Project? What about the BHS Building Project with an upcoming citizens' vote in November? Join us on Thursday, May 31 at 8:45 a.m. in the Burbank Cafeteria (resheduled from Tuesday, June 5 at 8:45 a.m. the Burbank Library) for a presentation by Superintendent John Phelan and Building Committee Representative Jamie Shea to get up to speed on these important topics.

ELA Presentation and Main Idea/Summer by Grade: Thank you to Jaynene Delitt-Young, the Belmont district's ELA and Social Studies curriculum specialist, for her excellent presentation at the Monday, May 14th PTA meeting about the district's ELA curriculum and leveled reading libraries in the classrooms. Thank you to Dr. Clifford for an informative and helpful handout about what skill to expect in students at every grade level, and how to prevent summer regression between grades. Thank you to all who attended, and congratulations to the raffle winners. Dr. Clifford's handout was extremely helpful, and all are encouraged to print out and keep the links provided in the PTA Meeting section below for the duration of your child's elementary schooling.

Kudos for the Community Strong Fun Run: Thank you Kate Crow, Katie S'bay and volunteers who helped organize a successful Fun Run last Thursday! Over 200 Burbank students participated. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and the students were cruising around the school building. It was impressive to see how many students completed 3+ miles (at 6:00 I literally had to go over to some students to say that the volunteers were bringing in the tables). The grand total was $617.25 that was fundraised by students and families. It will be a split donation between The Martin Richard Foundation and The Jimmy Fund. If any students in your class participated give them a high five because they earned it! A huge shout out to BASEC for all your help and support each year!

The Pan Mass Challenge Was a Success:Thank you to Breda Zimkus and Jim Zimkus for running another successful Pan Mass Challenge this year! Many children showed up to ride bikes and fund-raise for the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Thank you also to the Yawkee Store for donating gift cards to all registered participants.

Walking Wednesdays Sneaker Trophy Challenge: Burbank Walking Wednesdays continues this week. Get yourself to school by any means that help the environment: walk, bike, bus, or carpool for the next 3 Wednesdays and help your class earn the coveted Sneaker Trophy! New this year: the class with the most trophy wins will get to have their picture taken with Dr. Clifford!

How will YOU participate in the PTA?
Be a Co-Chair Next School Year!

Certain committees – Directory, Fall Social, Talent Show, and Garden – are most in need of co-chair volunteers. In addition, all committees are open to additional volunteers, fresh perspectives, and new energy. Please see the online VOLUNTEER INTEREST FORM for information about all the committees and to indicate your interest.

Do you have questions about the time commitment involved? We have answers.

The number of hours involved, as well as the timing (day, evening or weekend; year-round or seasonal) varies from committee to committee, and volunteers find the sweet spot that works for them. Time estimates and a short description for all the committees are provided on the VOLUNTEER INTEREST FORM. Use the form to let you know what sounds interesting, and we will contact you to provide more information and see if you want to opt in.

Thank you for giving your time and talents!

    Volunteer for FIELD DAY
    on June 7th

Burbank Field Day is set for Thursday, June 7th (rain date, June 14th). There will be two sessions during the day - feel free to sign up for one or both sessions:

    • 3rd and 4th Graders: 9:00am - 11:30am
    • K, 1st, and 2nd Graders: 12:10pm - 2:40pm

    Garden Classroom Summer Maintenance

Help us keep the Garden Classroom beautiful all summer! The vegetable garden will be taking a break while construction is done on the blacktop but we hope to have some beans, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes growing in the Garden Classroom. Sign up to weed and water for a week during the summer. In addition to having fun taking care of the plants, you can take home any produce you find that is ready to pick! A brief training can be arranged for those new to helping with the garden. You will probably need to visit the garden about 3 times during your sign-up week (depending on the weather).
