But first, a few announcements. . .
Volunteers Needed for the Geography Challenge: The junior division of the Geography Challenge has been rescheduled for this Friday, March 30th. Kindergarten and 1st grade teams will start at 9:00 am, and 2nd grade teams will start at 10:00 am. We still need more helpers to ensure the event runs smoothly. If you plan to attend, please consider volunteering before, during, or after – you can volunteer AND watch your child! You can view available slots at this link: Volunteer at Geography Challenge.
Staff Appreciation: Thank you to the volunteers who contributed generously with delicious food and precious time to staff appreciation last Wednesday! We appreciate your support of the Burbank Staff during parent-teacher conferences!
Multicultural Fair: Registration for the Multicultural Fair is now closed. Participants, please look for a confirmation email by tomorrow morning. If you think you signed up but don't receive an email, contact someone on the committee: Seetha Burtner, Patricia Wolff, or Narine Van Hal.
Want to collect an award for us? The Burbank PTA is being recognized for an increase in membership this year at the Annual Massachusetts PTA Convention on April 7th. Check out the workshops and event schedule at Mass PTA Convention. We'll sponsor registration for any two Burbank PTA members who would like to attend. To sign up, email Katherine or Seetha.

Burbank Food Drive
This Thursday, March 29th
Help stock the Belmont Food Pantry! We will be collecting food and toiletries on the blacktop during morning drop-off on Thursday, March 29th. Please share what you can!
In addition to food/toiletry donations, the food bank also accepts cash donations, which is uses to keep the pantry stocked between food drives. We will be collecting cash donations for the pantry – any amount is appreciated!
Food Items in Highest Demand:
- Ground Coffee
- Instant Coffee
- Chunky Peanut Butter (not creamy)
- Instant Cook Rice (instant, not regular)
- Pasta Sauce in Jars (not cans)
- Dried beans (1 lb bags, not cans)
- Certain Canned Veggies (Corn, Spinach, Mushroom, Beets, Potato only)
- 2 lb boxes of Granulated Sugar
Toiletries & Paper Goods in Highest Demand:
- Dish Detergent
- Spray Cleaners
- Dish Sponges
- Paper Towels
- Toilet Paper
- Paper Napkins

Volunteer at Geography Challenge
Families are welcome to come support their student and enjoy the display of knowledge and teamwork. Don’t forget to coordinate with your team on a theme or color to wear the day of the Challenge. Please note the start times for each grade:
- March 30th, 9:00-9:50 am: Kindergarten & 1st Grade
- March 30th, 10:00-10:30 am: 2nd Grade

Outstanding Teacher Awards, 2018
Submit Nominations by this Saturday, March 31st
The Foundation for Belmont Education is excited to announce the 2018 Outstanding Teacher Awards. This program recognizes and celebrates the extraordinary contributions made by teachers in the Belmont Public Schools. Nominations are currently being accepted for these awards. Belmont parents and community members, Belmont Public School colleagues, and high school and middle school students can submit nominations for teachers - of any grade, subject, or specialty - who deserve this special recognition. Teachers from Belmont’s six schools are chosen for this award. Each award winner will be honored at a surprise celebration at their school and at a district-wide awards ceremony to be held on May 1st at the Chenery Middle School.
