Melissa Chalmers: Kindergarten
1. Who was your favorite teacher? Why?
I had an amazing 1st grade teacher named Mrs. Egurine. Every year, she would read The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams to her class. We had a stuffed rabbit in our classroom that we each got to take turns bringing home throughout the year. During the last week of school, we came back to the classroom to find that our stuffed rabbit had been replaced by a real bunny just like in the story! I still remember how magical I thought that was. After that, reading became such a fun and exciting adventure. My teacher brought the joys of reading to life and I hope to pass that love down to my students as well.
2. What are you looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to being a part of the Burbank community! I have heard such wonderful things about the teachers, families and students in our school and I cannot wait to get to know everyone. I am also so excited to meet my new students! I hope they like to dance because I just love a good dance party!
3. What do you like to do when you are not teaching?
My husband, Matt and I are big foodies! We love trying new restaurants and cooking different recipes at home. To balance out all that eating, I like to go for runs and do yoga. We are also big football fans in my house! Fall is not only back to school time, it's football time! Over the summer, we spend a lot of time down the Cape with our family. We do a lot of reading at the beach and (of course) eating lobster rolls!
4. What is your experience working with children?
This is my first year teaching in Belmont, but my fifth year teaching kindergarten students.
