What's Happening This Week

We hope everyone had a good snow day yesterday. Delayed opening plus early release today makes for a very short school day.

Next week is the Geography Challenge. We still need a few volunteers, so if you want to be part of a great tradition at Burbank, please sign up here.

Big thanks to Jessse Souweine and Kelly Imberman McGee for planning a very fun and well-attended Movie Night last Friday! Community Building events like Movie Night are part of what makes Burbank such a special place.

Have a great week,

Jessie and Katherine

The Geography Challenge is fast approaching!

This year’s Challenge will be held on Thursday, March 23rd, and Friday, March 24th, in the Burbank cafeteria. We hope participating teams have fun learning and practicing for the Geography Challenge.

Call for Volunteers: Help the Geography Challenge run smoothly!
This two day event needs helping hands before, during and after. If you are free, please check out the link and sign up if you can. Thank you very much!

Update on School Street Safety

On Thursday 3/2 we attended the Capital Budget Committee meeting at which Glenn Clancy presented his request for $38k for improvements to the School St crosswalk and sidewalks. Glenn explained his proposed package of curbing, pedestrian operated flashing crosswalk signs, and two raised tables on each approach to the crosswalk (he discussed these explicitly even though they were not in his written proposal) to slow traffic, and why it makes sense to install these improvements this summer, ready for the new school year.

We merely added that we represent many concerned families, that this is a key walking/crossing route for Chenery as well as Burbank students, and that abutting residents on School St are supportive of changes that improve safety.

The Committee was receptive to the plans and certainly aware of the traffic and safety concerns re School St. There was agreement in the room that raised elements are effective in slowing traffic, and becoming more common, and the DPW reps said they will work around raised tables when plowing.

The committee did not vote on the proposal during this meeting. They will release a list of approved capital projects later (we will try to find out when this will be).

Glenn said after the meeting he thinks "the project is a go", and so we remain hopeful!
