What's Happening This Week

Winter break is almost upon us! Below is information to help wrap up 2016 (the successes of the Book Fair, Burbank Walks, and Burbank Giving Days) and plan ahead for 2017 (save the dates for STEM Night and the Talent Show) and more!

Friday is the annual Winter Concert, a special time for families to enjoy music sung by the entire Burbank student body. The concert will begin at 9:00am in the gym. Look for Burbank mugs, water bottles, and tote bags for sale outside the gym, before and after the conert.

An enormous THANK YOU to families, friends, teachers, staff, and all who supported the PTA this year! We are so thankful to be a part of this wonderful community, and look forward to doing great things together in the new year!

Happy Holidays!

Jessie and Katherine

Before 2016 Ends...
Support the Burbank Annual Appeal

We are very close to our goal of $24,000. We need a robust appeal to support the learning environment and community here at Burbank. Help us hit (and surpass!) this target, and you'll be helping to do great things at our school. None of the work the PTA does is possible without your support.

Thanks From the Burbank Library!!!!

Many thanks to everyone who supported our library through the book fair! We received 73 new and exciting books for our collection!! We appreciate your donations to help inspire our avid readers here at Burbank. Thanks to the book fair committee for a fantastic job in making it such a successful event. Your hard work is amazing, so thank you very much!

Please hold the date of Tuesday, January 10th for our first shelf read of the year. This is when parent volunteers can come in after drop off and help go through all our books to ensure they are shelved properly. Each year this is done in January and June. Look for more information coming soon but for now please hold the date.

Thanks again to all our parents for their continued support of our library!

Book Fair Proceeds

Thank you Burbank families and staff for supporting the Book Fair - your participation made it a great success! Together we raised $1,868 for the library, which will fund new library book purchases throughout the year. In addition, your generous donations to teacher wish lists added 353 new books to the school! These books are already being enjoyed in classrooms, the library, specialists' rooms, and at BASEC. Thank you!

Online book orders were received last week. If you ordered books online please stop by the school library to pick up your order from the box next to Mrs Hines's computer desk.

Thank you again, and happy reading! Questions or feedback? Please contact a Book Fair Co-Chairs Kathy Collins DerKazarian (kaceycoll@yahoo.com), Krasi Petkov (korkdail2@hotmail.com), or Harriet Wong (hiwong@post.harvard.edu)

Burbank Walks - Great Job!

Thank you families for joining in last week's wacky Beach Party, and to Mrs Crow for the dance party music! Once again Burbank has shown terrific participation in Walking Wednesdays this fall. The Walking School Bus groups have been fun for families, and we thank the volunteer Coordinators and "Bus Drivers" for leading them.

This Fall over 200 students participated in the Walk-it Ticket program, and received a prize for their numerous walking trips! Their names are displayed on the Burbank Walks "Hall of Fame" poster on the PTA bulletin board near the school office. Great job!

Over the winter we encourage families to walk to/from school as often as they can. The Walking School Buses will take a break, but Burbank will celebrate a Winter Walk to School Day on Wednesday, February 1st.

Remind your children of these winter walking safety tips:
* Allow extra time for dressing and walking - snow can be such fun!
* Wear bright colors, or reflector strips on jackets/backpacks
* Wear boots with good grips
* Stay on the sidewalk, even if it has not yet been cleared
* Cross with a crossing guard, or at established crosswalks.

Stay warm and safe, and please drive slowly and carefully around the school!

The toys will be distributed over the next two weeks to patients spending the holidays in the hospital. Children's Hospital sends along a big THANK YOU to the Burbank community for its generous support!

Cityside Subaru Selects the Foundation for Belmont Education as a Share the Love Local Charity

For the third year, Cityside Subaru of Belmont has selected the Foundation for Belmont Education (FBE) to benefit from the Subaru Share the Love fundraiser, a national initiative by the car manufacturer that has donated close to $90 million to local charities across the U.S. during the past six years. Under this program, consumers who purchase or lease a new vehicle between November 17th and January 2nd can select the Foundation for Belmont Education as their charity of choice, and Subaru will donate $250 to the FBE in support of educational excellence in Belmont’s public schools. Last year, Cityside Subaru donated $22,600 to the FBE through the Share the Love program.

If you are in the market to purchase or lease a new car and want to help the Belmont Public schools in the process, please click here for more information about Cityside Subaru’s Share the Love program.
