Dear Burbank Parents,
Thank you for your tremendous support of the Burbank Book Fair! It was a festive, busy, wonderful day! We look forward to seeing you on the “beach” behind the school Wednesday morning for our Beach Party celebrating the last Walking Wednesday of the season. Mark your calendar for our next PTA Meeting, Monday January 12, 7:00 pm. We welcome Laurie Graham from the School Committee as our guest speaker.

BURBANK WALKS—BEACH PARTY!
Tomorrow, December 10, Burbank will celebrate our final Walking Wednesday of the season with a BEACH PARTY!
Students and families are invited to wear sun hats and sunglasses for the walk to school. Before-School students will participate by taking a walk around the school, and METCO students will walk from the bottom of Sharpe Road. Upon arrival, join us on the blacktop "beach" until the bell.
Join the fun Wednesday morning! (And dress warmly under that sun hat!)
This Wednesday is also the final round of the Sneaker Trophy Contest! Walk, bike or scooter to school to help your class win a trophy! Congratulations to last week's trophy winners: Ms. Morrow's second grade and Mr. von Huene's fourth grade classes.
Walk-it Tickets will be collected this week. Please remind your child to record their walks and then turn in their Walk-it Ticket to their teacher on December 10. Participating students will receive a small prize and have their name and total number of walks listed on the Burbank Walks Wall of Fame! Check out the PTA bulletin board next week.
Thanks for walking!

BOOK FAIR THANK YOU!
We had an amazing day on Friday at the Burbank Book Fair! Thank you to our Co-Chairs, Heather Barr, Alissa Schreiner, Amy Zuccarello, and Silke Nielsen who worked tirelessly to engineer a fantastic event. We couldn’t have done it without the countless volunteers--Burbank parents, middle school and high school students, and our patient custodians. Thank you also to our Brownie Troops for the enormous spread of treats. The bake sale raised almost $400 which was immediately spent on books for the library and classrooms. It was exciting to have Sharisse Zeroonian, a young playwright and Burbank Alum join us to talk with kids about her book and inspire young writers. If you didn’t get to meet her, please look her up: http://www.amazon.com/One-Plus-Sharisse-Naomi-Zeroonian/dp/1502767511/ref=tmm_pap_title_0.
We also want to thank Leigh Standley-Dibernardo, owner of Marmalade, for ordering the Burbank cocoa mugs for us and loaning us props for display and decoration at the Book Fair.
Our biggest “thank you” goes out to the Burbank Community for your tremendous support of the Burbank Book Fair. An enormous number of new books were purchased for the library and classrooms, almost every book from the Wish List tables. Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without you!
BURBANK MUGS AND WATER BOTTLES
Our Burbank mugs were a hit at Book Fair! We have only three left, $10 each! We also have Burbank Waterbottles available for $5. Would you like one? Please contact Laurie Bufano, email@example.com
CAPITAL APPEAL—YEAR END REMINDER
With Thanksgiving behind us we are fast approaching the end of 2014. It flew by! With the arrival of December, we wanted to include a quick reminder for those who have delayed donating, but want to make their gift within this calendar year. Your donation is tax deductible, and so now is your moment! Also, for those who already have, or are considering donating, please take a moment to research your employer's policy on matching gifts. If this is an option for you, it is a great way to add to the Burbank PTA at no cost to you. Many offer this option once annually, so please apply for your 2014 match while the opportunity still exists. Checks can be sent to school via an envelope in the backpack, or follow this link to donate quickly online, https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=HMPBKXTDRGW46
Thanks again to all those who have previously donated. We are able to do great things because of your generous support.

Trayless Thursdays: In an effort to reduce the number of Styrofoam lunch trays in the cafeteria trash, Burbank is experimenting with the use of recyclable trays. This pilot program, led by Mary Beth Calnan, Recycling Coordinator for Belmont, will run for the next few weeks. Thank you to our parent volunteers assisting us on “Trayless Thursdays”!

COLLECT BOX TOPS and LABELS FOR EDUCATION
KEEP COLLECTING -- HELP US MEET OUR GOAL!
We recently submitted our Fall Box Tops and Labels for Education… 2000 of each! That is a good start, but we need to step it up in order to meet our annual goals.
Please keep collecting your Box Tops and Labels! There is a collection box in the School Office or students can bring them into class. Each label earns money to support our school! Thank you!
STAR Awards from the Foundation for Belmont Education
Looking for a great way to thank a teacher or staff member during the holiday season?
How about a STAR Award?
The FBE's STAR (Staff and Teacher Award and Recognition) Awards recognize Belmont educators and staff who are committed to helping Belmont public school students realize their full potential. This program is a great opportunity for parents and children to acknowledge and thank the remarkable professionals who make a difference in their lives.
With a tax-deductible donation of $20 or more to the STAR program, the FBE will send a certificate to the teacher or staff member you wish to honor. The certificate includes your name and personalized message, without specifying the dollar amount of the gift.
Your STAR Award donation will help the FBE make a difference in the Belmont Public Schools by funding innovative curricula, enrichment, technology, professional development, and other initiatives. For more information about the STAR Award program or to order online, please visit
www.fbe-belmont.org/star. Please order by December 12th to guarantee delivery before schools close for winter break.
If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Chris Kochem at
firstname.lastname@example.org or 617.484.7989.

Saturday, 12/13, POMS Holly Jolly Trolley Tour
On Saturday, December 13, beginning at 4:30 PM, beautifully decorated trolleys will wend their way through Belmont, as small ensembles of high school singers and musicians lead passengers in holiday, musical fun. The trolleys will collect passengers from the festively adorned trolley depot (lobby) of Belmont Savings Bank in Belmont Center. From there, the destination will be houses and streets in Belmont reflecting the spirit of the season. Each tour will be approximately 30 minutes long, with the final trolley leaving Belmont Savings Bank at 7:00 PM. Hot chocolate will be served at the end of your journey, in the Belmont Savings Bank depot.
Tickets purchased in advance are highly recommended. The cost per rider is $15. “Lap” children are free. To make your reservation, you may buy tickets at the Belmont Center Belmont Savings Bank or through the POMS website: belmontpoms.weebly.com. Tickets will also be sold at the town Tree-Lighting Ceremony in Belmont Center on Thursday evening, December 4. Please look for our POMS table, near the Belmont Savings Bank.
The Belmont Holly Jolly Trolley is a fundraiser partnership between POMS (Parents of Music Students) and Belmont Savings Bank. POMS is a parent-run organization whose purpose is to raise money for the music programs in the Belmont public school system.
POMS and the Belmont community are deeply grateful for the support of Belmont Savings Bank in underwriting much of the cost of this event.
