BURBANK SCHOOL NEWSLETTER: Friday, January 10, 2020

We Strive for Love of Learning, Respect and Well Being

Learn      Think      Create      Serve

Dear Burbank Families,

I hope by now you have had the chance to attend a publishing party or seen some of your child(ren)'s writing in their take home folder. You may have gotten to read Small Moment Stories, All About Books, or Tales of Realistic Fiction.  If you have, I know that you must be as impressed as I am with the quantity and caliber of the work that Burbank students are creating!  The blossoming of writing at Burbank is thanks to your child(ren)'s teacher's implementation of our new writing curriculum.

Jaynene Delitt-Young, the district’s Elem. ELA & Social Studies Specialist, will be presenting at the PTA meeting on Tuesday, January 14th.  Please join us to hear the exciting journey your child is experiencing in the writing workshop! This is a great opportunity to hear about the big picture of the district’s writing instruction, how your child is practicing their craft, and how student ideas are encouraged to share their voice with the world.  Don’t miss it!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Okie

  • Body lotion
  • Hand lotion
  • Deodorant
  • Facial cleansers
  • Toothpaste

If you are able to help, please have your child bring their donated items to their classroom between

Nurse’s Notes: Tobacco Education

I have recently completed the tobacco education program in all four third grade classrooms. The third graders learned about the anatomy and physiology of breathing. They learned about the chemicals contained in tobacco and the harmful effects they can have on the body. This included a discussion of chewing and smoking tobacco, as well as electronic cigarettes. We calculated the monetary cost of cigarettes and brain-stormed alternative uses for that money. I was impressed by their questions and enthusiasm. Please ask them about what they learned.

Lost & Found Has A New Look

Please make sure to check the lost and found as soon as you notice your child is missing something. Our lost and found items can now be found in a new location in the hallway across from the art room on a clothing rack. Please check out lost and found as soon as you realize that you have lost an item of clothing, lunch bag, water bottle, etc.  All unclaimed items in the Lost and Found will be cleared and donated on the 1st of every month.  Items that are labeled with your child's name (not just initials) will be returned to them.
