BURBANK SCHOOL NEWSLETTER: FRIDAY, October 25th, 2019

We Strive for Love of Learning, Respect and Well Being

Learn      Think      Create      Serve

Dear Burbank Families,

We’ve had another fine week at Burbank.  We are now right in the middle of Parent/Teacher Conferences and I hope that you have had or have scheduled a time to speak to your child(ren)’s teacher(s) about their strengths and challenges in the classroom and beyond.  I hope you find, as I have, that Burbank teachers know their students.  While they assess their academic learning as a matter of good practice, I think you’ll be amazed by their insights into your children’s social lives, passions, habits (both good and bad), and areas for growth.  Burbank, I am learning more and more every day, creates an ideal environment for learning and a big part of that is demonstrating to every one of our students that they are known, valued, and belong. I hope you’ll join me in recognizing the amazing job our teachers do in this essential area.

Success for our students happens best, of course, when parents or guardians and teachers work together.  Please take the opportunity offered by conferences to learn about your child’s classroom experience, as well as to share your own valuable insights into your child’s learning and growth.  You are our most important partners in our mission to educate our students.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Seeley Okie

Nurse’s Notes:

It’s time to look for head lice.

There have been reported cases of head lice. This is VERY NORMAL, especially after a vacation or long weekends, when families congregate more closely and relatives from far away come to visit. This is a reminder to all of us that head lice are always in the community, and routine inspection of children’s heads by parents is ESSENTIAL to combat the spread. Instructions for inspecting and treating head lice are available in my office, or on the Belmont schools website, under Health Services.

Feel free to call me with any questions at 617-993-5506

Early Release Day Schedules

Nearly all early release days are on Wednesdays.  In order for children not to miss the same specialist or program on these early release Wednesdays, another day of the week’s schedule sometimes replaces Wednesday’s schedule.  For example, if Wednesday is a Thursday schedule, then Thursday will be Wednesday’s schedule for Physical Education, Art, Music, Library and Computer lab.  Instrumental Music always follows the early release day schedule changes.

Check Dates to Remember for these changes.

Crazy Hat & Hair Day – October 31st

Students in grades 1-4 will be able to wear a crazy hat or fix their hair in a creative crazy way on Thursday, October 31st.  This is always a fun-filled day for the students.

Please note, that Kindergarteners are the only students who are permitted to wear their costumes on Thursday for their traditional Halloween parade.

Lost & Found Has A New Look

Please make sure to check the lost and found as soon as you notice your child is missing something.  Our lost and found items can now be found in a new location in the hallway across from the art room on a clothing rack.  Please check out lost and found as soon as you realize that you have lost an item of clothing, lunch bag, water bottle, etc.
