We Strive for Love of Learning, Respect and Well Being
Learn Think Create Serve

Dear Burbank Families,

Parent/teacher conferences have started. We will continue with conferences on October 31st and November 7th which are both early dismissal days, when children are dismissed at 11:40 a.m. Thank you in advance (if you haven’t already) for attending a conference-it’s a great opportunity to find out more about your child’s progress and experiences at school.

On Wednesday, we will be holding our Annual Crazy Hat and Hair Day! This is an opportunity for students to show their creative side-either with an interesting hair style, or a wild hat!

People often ask me how school is going, and usually at about this time in the school year, I feel that it’s settling down a bit. Routines have been established, students know their classmates better and their teachers and there seems to be a rhythm to the days now that the “newness” has worn off a bit. Thank you for sharing your children with us-I spent some time in a kindergarten classroom on Monday, and I always enjoy five and six-year olds perspectives on the world, they see things much clearly then most of us, and their honesty is refreshing!

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Clifford

Parent Conference Early Release Day – 11:40am Dismissal

October 31 and November 7 are early release days for fall parent conferences. November 21 is Early Release for Thanksgiving break. Please mark these dates on your calendar. On all early release days, all students are released from school at 11:40am. No lunches are served. BASEC (after school program) begins at 11:40am. On November 21 there will be NO BASEC.

Early Release Day Schedule

Nearly all early release days are on Wednesdays. In order for children not to miss the same specialist or program on these early release Wednesdays, another day of the week’s schedule sometimes replaces Wednesday’s schedule. For example, if Wednesday is a Thursday schedule, then Thursday will be Wednesday’s schedule for Physical Education, Art, Music, Library and Computer lab. Instrumental Music always follows the early release day schedule changes.

Check Dates to Remember for these changes.

Lost & Found Reminder

Due to the large volume of items in the lost and found and the fact that we don’t have the space to accommodate all of these items, the lost and found box is emptied at the beginning of every month. Please make sure to check the lost and found as soon as you notice something is missing.

Crazy Hat & Hair Day – October 31st

Students in grades 1-4 will be able to wear a crazy hat or fix their hair in a creative crazy way on Wednesday, October 31st. This is always a fun-filled day for the students.

Clothes for the Clinic: boys sweat pants and underpants

The clinic could use some new or gently used sweat pants (sizes 5-10) and some new boy’s underpants for those occasions when a student needs a change of clothing. Thank you for any donations.

PTA MEETING

The Burbank PTA meeting scheduled for November 5th has been canceled. A new date will be determined shortly and communicated to everyone.

PARENT-TEACHER BOOK DROP

Burbank and Belmont teachers are in constant need of books to replenish their classroom libraries. Please bag and bring gently used children’s books to your parent-teacher conference. Bring books of any reading level, not just for your child’s particular grade. Your child’s teacher will collect them, and they will be sorted and redistributed by the Belmont Public School ELA Curriculum Director (and Burbank parent) Jaynene Dellitt-Young.

TRICK-or-TREAT For UNICEF + FILL-A-BUCKET DAY

A reminder to collect change and make change in kids' lives by participating in the UNICEF Trick-or-Treat program. On Thursday November 1st, students can participate in “Fill A Bucket” Day by turning in their UNICEF collection boxes (or making a donation) on the blacktop. Students can fill the UNICEF bucket to provide children around the world with medicine, nutrition, clean water, emergency relief, and education.

In the spirit of “Fill A Bucket” Day, students are also encouraged do or say something kind to fill a friend’s bucket. The Burbank class with the highest percentage of class participants to return UNICEF collection boxes will be honored by the school and have their picture taken with Dr. Clifford!

Please contact the PTA Social Action Committee (Breda Zimkus, bzimkus@outlook.com or Jim Zimkus, jzimkus@gmail.com) with questions.

ANNUAL APPEAL: HELP US GET TO THE FINISH LINE

The PTA’s Annual Appeal continues to inch its way to meeting its goal, increasing to 79% of our target of $30,000! Thank you to those who have already contributed! Please donate online at https://burbank-pta.org/donate, or by sending a check in your child’s school folder. We ask you to contribute whatever you’re comfortable giving, and if you need a number, we suggest $125 PER CURRENT BURBANK CHILD. Every bit helps, so please join us and give what you can.

Past partnerships between the Burbank PTA and the Burbank school include teacher grants, SMART boards, grade-level enrichment activities, “Mathbrary” for Grade 2, Colonial Day for Grade 3, Kindergarten field trips, and many more.
