Learn Think Create Serve
Dear Burbank Families,
On Wednesday the staff was treated to a “Teacher Appreciation Lunch”, sponsored by the PTA. This event is always a highlight for the staff, as it provides us with an opportunity to have lunch together, and to catch up during this busy time of year. As always, the lunch was great, thank you to all of the volunteers who helped put on such a fun afternoon.
Tuesday night, Cliff Gallant was recognized as the “FBE Burbank Outstanding Teacher of the Year”. There were many Burbank families in attendance, thank you for your support!

Thank You From The Staff
The Burbank Staff would like to thank the PTA and all the parents for the wonderful luncheon that was served to us on Wednesday. We feel so fortunate to work with such caring and generous parents at Burbank. The sandwiches, salads, sides and desserts were delicious. The library was made to look like a Mexican restaurant with colored table cloths and centerpieces. The whole experience was just lovely! Thank you to everyone who contributed with either monetary donations, food items and set up and clean up. We appreciate you all.
Clothes for the Clinic: sweat pants or leggings
The clinic could use some new or gently used sweat pants or legging (size 6 and larger) for those occasions when a student needs a change of clothing. Thank you for any donations.

A Message for Grade 4 Parents/Guardians from Chenery Middle School: Although Grade 5 probably seems a long way off, here at Chenery we are eagerly looking forward to your child’s entry into our school community! Class placement and school orientation are two of the most important things to you and your children during this time of transition, so we want to be certain that we are as thoughtful and thorough as possible. To that end, please take note of the following dates:
· Starting on Monday, May 1st and continuing through Wednesday, May 31st we will make available “Placement Consideration Forms” at each elementary school main office. They are not required to be completed, but if you have any special circumstances you would like us to know about before assigning your child to a teacher and a team please submit one for your child. For the sake of convenience, all forms can be picked up and returned to the main office at your child’s elementary school.
· On Tuesday, May 30th @ 6:30-8:00pm in the Chenery Auditorium we will be hosting a special “Parent/Guardian Orientation” presentation for all incoming Grade 4 Parents/Guardians. We will provide a brief PowerPoint presentation, answer any questions, and then give a brief building tour of Grade 5 learning spaces. Please note that this is an adult-only event.
· During the week of Tuesday, May 30th through Friday, June 2nd all Grade 4 classrooms will have the opportunity to come to Chenery Middle School for a “Student Orientation” and building tour. This opportunity will be arranged in conjunction with Grade 4 classroom teachers and Principals. Please note that this will occur during the school day and is a
n child-only event
If you have any additional questions regarding placement, please contact me at school at 617-993-5800. My office is always open to you. We are looking forward to welcoming your child next year!

Pan Mass Challenge for Kids
Calling all kids ages 3-12! Join your Burbank friends at Belmont's Pan Mass Challenge for Kids Ride on Sunday, May 21st, at Belmont Hill School from 11:00 am-2:00 pm, which will raise money for the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Trikes, big wheels and training wheels are allowed on the "Tot Lot” loop (and can have help from parents if needed), which will take place in the parking lot of the Belmont Hill School campus. Those without training wheels can head out on the "Adventure Loop" (1 mile route guided by volunteers). Children can do as little as one loop or as many as they can fit in an hour. After the ride there are free refreshments, music, bouncy houses, face painting and other fun activities, including a visit from Pat the Patriot!
For more general information about registration, route options, and the post-ride party, see: http://www.kids.pmc.org/belmont.aspx. You can ride alone, as a family, put together your own team, or join the "Belmont Bikers" team, which is made up of children from the Belmont Elementary Schools. The Yawkee Way store is donating $20 gift cards to all registered riders again this year!
Feel free to contact Breda or Jim Zimkus (firstname.lastname@example.org; email@example.com) with any questions that you may have.
3RD Annual Parent Lecture Series
Each year the Belmont After School Enrichment Collaborative (BASEC) hosts a free parent lecture series funded graciously by a grant from Belmont Savings Bank. The lecture series brings experts to the Belmont community to speak on behalf of various relevant topics pertaining to the healthy development of children. This year's series is focusing on how to engage in conversation about such tough topics and how to talk to our children about these issues. Below is a listing of all the dates, times, and locations for each speaker.
May 16 – Dr. Aparna Mujumdar – “Gender-Based Messages: What Are We Telling Our Children?” at Burbank Elementary 6:30-8:00p
