MMEA All-State Conference and Festival Auditions

Twenty-six Belmont High School students auditioned for the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) All-State Festival this past Saturday and the Department of Visual and Performing Arts is pleased to announce that eleven of those students were accepted to the All-State Ensembles:

  • Alyssa Chen (Grade 9), violin
  • Jason Chen (Grade 9), clarinet
  • Jessica Chen (Grade 12), viola
  • Christopher Giron (Grade 11), bassoon
  • Nate Jones (Grade 10), jazz trombone
  • Daniel Joh Kang (Grade 9), violin
  • Alex Park (Grade 11), jazz trumpet
  • Calvin Perkins (Grade 12), trumpet
  • Audrey Quinn (Grade 11), violin
  • Amy Wu (Grade 11), oboe
  • Andrew Xu (Grade 10), bass clarinet

As a result of their successful auditions, these students will perform in the All-State Orchestra, Band or Jazz Ensemble at the annual MMEA All-State Conference and Festival. The festival takes place March 1-3 at the Seaport Convention Center in Boston, and culminates in a performance at Boston’s Symphony Hall on the afternoon of March 3.

Additionally, we learned that the Chenery Middle School Woodwind Quintet has been invited to perform at the MMEA Conference on Thursday, March 1. Their performance will take place immediately prior to the keynote address, which will be attended by an audience of over 800 music educators from across the state. This is an incredible opportunity and honor for the Woodwind Quintet and their director, Sharon Phipps.

  • Tilly Jones (Grade 8), flute
  • Irene Son (Grade 8), clarinet
  • Megan Kornberg (Grade 8), oboe
  • Evie Hamer (Grade 8), bassoon
  • Lydia Haddad (Grade 8), French horn

The success of these students on the state level is a direct result of their dedication to practicing their craft over the course of many years of study. They are also very fortunate to live in a community where their music education is so enthusiastically supported by their parents, their teachers and administrators, and their community. Please take advantage of the opportunity to hear these fine young musicians perform at one of our upcoming concerts:

  • Jazz Night, January 25 – 7 PM at BHS
  • CMS Honors Concert, February 8 – 7 PM at CMS
  • BHS “Spring” Concerts, February 12 & February 28 – 7 PM at BHS
