Belmont High School will compete in season eight of WGBH’s High School Quiz Show. Belmont was announced as one of 16 teams, out of more than 100 across Massachusetts, to compete in the televised matches after participating in “Super Sunday” on November 13, a one-day qualifying event to determine the teams. The BHS who won the spot are Matthew Miller, Aaron Yao-Smith, Eva Hill, Aidan Carey, Cindy Zhang, and Cameron Anderson.
The show format has the teams advance in single-elimination bracketed academic tournaments that will identify a state champion. Then the state champion team competes for the Governor’s Cup Challenge and ultimately will compete with New Hampshire Public Televisions Granite State Challenge winner.
The winner receives bragging rights for being the state champions as well as a trophy, a commemorative plaque for each team member and coach, a banner for the school, and an award of $1,000 toward the team/school to be used in a way deemed appropriate by the school’s administrators.
