Belmont school news is available in your living room and online now with a new television show called “Belmont Schools NOW” hosted by Superintendent John Phelan and brought to you by Belmont Media Center (BMC).
The idea for the show came about after former School Committee member Scott Stratford, currently a Town Meeting member and Board Member of BMC, and Executive Director of Belmont Media Center Jeff Hansell spoke at a School Committee meeting about ways BMC is working with the school district.
The School Committee and Superintendent in partnership with BMC decided to air a monthly show about district news, jumping off the Superintendent’s bi-monthly newsletter/blog emailed to parents and staff and available on the Belmont Public Schools website.
The Belmont community has responded positively towards the blog and our efforts to keep them informed about all the news in the schools. Television seemed like a way to reach more people in the town, and I am very pleased and excited about our relationship with Belmont Media Center, and the ability to bring this to fruition.

Shows will highlight the many people and programs that make up the school district with topics such as athletics, arts, and academics as well as interviews with teachers, staff, students, and Belmont community members. “We are trying to increase our outreach to the educational community and to families,” says Hansell. “We hope more people tune into Belmont Media and online, which can be viewed anytime.” View Belmont Schools NOW Trailer here.
The show will be an interview format with news pieces and visual elements to illustrate school news. A new show will air monthly with repeat broadcasts throughout the week.
