METCO Transportation Policies & Procedures and the Annual Contract

METCO Parents,

Attached please find the Transportation Contract, Transportation Policies and Procedures, and the Code of Conduct.  Students have a copy of each in their book bags.  Please read this material with your son or daughter.  Both of you should sign the contract and return it to Ms. Chinn or Ms. Walker in the morning.  There have been a few incidents this year and we would like to prevent them from happening again.

Next Wednesday, September 24^th, from 6:00-8:00 middle school parents will be meeting with Chenery School principal, Kristen St. George, and the Assistant Principal for the Lower School, Christopher Fleming.  For students to succeed, parents, administration, teachers and guidance counselors must work together.  The meeting will take place at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 650 Dudley Street, two blocks in from Columbia Road on the right hand side.  There is plenty of parking in the back.

We have started a telephone chain to encourage families to attend, please let me know if you would like to assist.

The other grades, K-4 and 9-12, will be meeting in another room, same location.  When searching for a location to accommodate us, with hassle-free parking, there is a charge, one of the many items your annual dues supports.

METCO is a very special and unique program, let’s show our support by actively participating.  If you are unable to attend, please ask another adult in your family to represent your child and return with the information shared in the meeting.

Every ten years there is a Conference at Harvard University for all of the voluntary desegregation programs ( like METCO) in the United States.  I attended my first in 1990-there were 22 programs represented, in 2000 there were 14, and in 2010 there were five.  Rochester, New York was the first, started in 1965, Boston, MA. was the second, beginning September, 1966.
