DESCRIPTION: Join the Walk for Music & the Arts! Sunday, May 15, 2016 Registration 1-2 PM ... Walk 2-3 PM (rain or shine) Sign up now! It's a beautiful spring day. You meet your friends for a short, 1.5-mile walk around one of Boston's loveliest parks, the Back Bay Fens. You are surrounded by musicians and dancers, artists and actors, children and seniors. There is music in the air and happiness in your heart because you know that your are making a difference. You are helping to keep the arts alive in your community! Here’s how you join us: Step 1: Register as a walker for our team “POMS of Belmont” at the following link: www.walkformusic.org/become-a-walker.php. (Bonus! POMS will pay your registration fee!) Step 2: Email friends, neighbors, co-workers and family and ask them to pledge (see sample email text below—you can copy and paste and customize to make it your own!) Step 3: Collect the checks from your supporters (unless they paid via the Paypal link) and submit them to either your music teacher at school or Kimberly Carlile, POMS President, 19 Broad St, Belmont, MA 02478 Step 4: Walk on Sunday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. with friends and family, as well as with musicians and artists from arts organizations all over greater Boston! Directions to the walk starting line are here! www.walkformusic.org/directions.php Below is a sample letter you could send to your neighbors, friends, family and co-workers: Dear Grandpa, I am participating with my friends and neighbors in a walk-a-thon on May 15th to raise money to benefit the music programs in the Belmont public schools. If you will support me with a pledge, we can help provide new instruments, music equipment and technology, visiting guest artists, uniforms, and other music necessities that make the music education in my school complete. Last year, our school district was named one of the top 100 districts in the country for music education! There’s something really good happening with music in the schools here. More and more kids sign up every year. All are included and encouraged to give their best effort as budding musicians under the instruction of exceptional teachers. You should hear us! Will you show your support for music education in my school district with a pledge for my walk? Any amount will help, and every penny goes to music in the Belmont Public Schools. There are zero overhead costs or fees for this walk-a-thon. You can write a check payable to “POMS” (which stands for Parents of Music Students, who are organizing the walk) and I can come pick up the check next week.
