Open Enrollment for Health Insurance and Dental Plans

This year's open enrollment for the health insurance and dental plans will take place from Monday, May 7th through Friday, May 18th. in the Human Resources Department, located in Town Hall, top floor (2F off the elevator), at 455 Concord Avenue, Belmont.

We have scheduled the representatives from the Town’s benefits plans to attend a Benefits Fair that will be held at Town Hall in the  Selectmen’s Conference Room (1st Floor) on Thursday,  May10th from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m.

During the open enrollment period, you will have the opportunity to switch health plans, make changes to your existing health and dental plan elections such as changing your family status, or to enroll in a Town health and/or dental insurance plan if you are eligible but are not currently a subscriber. Payroll deductions taken in June cover the month of July and therefore, the new rates for these plans will be deducted in June.

Flexible Spending Accounts

The Town offers a pre-tax Flexible Spending Plan through Crosby Benefit Systems, Inc. This plan is authorized by the Internal Revenue Service and complies with their regulations which allow you to deduct, on a calendar year basis, up to $2,000 for medical expenses not covered by health or dental insurance or $5,000 for dependent care.  Per the IRS, any funds that you have deducted and do not use by the end of the calendar year are forfeited so it is important that you plan carefully. Effective January 1, 2011, over-the-counter medicines and drugs can only be reimbursed if prescribed by a physician. This change does not apply to medical supplies such as insulin even if purchased without a prescription, or other health care expenses such as medical devices, eye glasses, contact lenses, bandages, co-pays and deductibles.

For those not currently enrolled who wish to join, you may contact the Human Resources Department for forms during the open enrollment period or may join/re-enroll on line at: http://www.crosbybenefits.com/

If you join online, please make a copy of your application and send one to Human Resources, Town Hall, 455 Concord Ave., MA 02478.  This will ensure that your deductions are processed through payroll as of January.

Please contact Carole Pessotti at 617-993-2740 for any additional information.

Note: Crosby’s monthly administrative charge is $6.25 to join this plan.
